Traveling by Air
For those joining us from farther away, we recommend flying into the Nanaimo Airport (YCD).
From there, rental cars are available through providers such as Budget Rent a Car and National Car Rental, making it easy to reach the Cowichan Valley.
Shuttle service is also available via the Nanaimo Airporter.
Traveling from the Lower Mainland
For those coming from the Lower Mainland, the journey across the water is part of the experience.
You can travel with BC Ferries:
Horseshoe Bay Terminal → Departure Bay Terminal
Tsawwassen Terminal → Duke Point Terminal
From either terminal, Ladysmith is just a short 20-minute drive. We recommend booking your sailing in advance to secure Saver fares.
Please note: for the Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay route, vehicle reservations must be made ahead of time, as tickets are not sold at the terminal.
A Downtown Alternative
Another option is the passenger-only Hullo Ferries, which travels from downtown Vancouver to the Nanaimo Port Place Terminal.
From there, car rentals are available through Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental, and Budget Rent a Car (many offer pickup with advance booking).
Car-sharing options such as Evo Car Share and Turo are also available at the terminal, and shuttle service can be arranged through the Nanaimo Airporter.
